Welcome to the last blog of 2017 from your South Austin apartment community! This week’s post is all about saving money when dining out, which might come in handy over the holidays.
Take a look at the post below, and please be sure to share this post with your friends and neighbors at your community of South Austin rentals.
Stop ignoring your emails
Your email inbox is probably filled with offers from Groupon, OpenTable, and Yelp. Those companies are constantly pushing out coupons from local restaurants that need your business. You’re going to go out to eat anyway, so you might as well save money by using a few coupons.
Unfortunately, most us just ignore these emails and treat them as spam. Every time you delete one of these emails without opening it up, it’s like you’re throwing away an envelope full of cash without even checking to see what’s inside.
Start eating earlier
The early bird gets the worm, and the early eater gets the happy hour prices. Actually, eating earlier is more affordable at all times of day. Breakfast is more affordable than lunch, and lunch is more affordable than dinner. That’s just the way most restaurants operate.
If you’re planning out going out to dinner with friends, try to leave work a few minutes early and get to the restaurant before 6:00. Most happy hours are over before 6:30, but your goal should be to squeeze your order in right before the happy hour ends. You might have to share appetizers or stick with the entrees that are on the happy hour menu, but it’s worth it to save a few bucks every now and again.
Stop ordering drinks
Ordering drinks is fine if that’s all you do, but ordering drinks with dinner is the fastest way to empty your bank account. Seriously, restaurants make most of their money on upcharging for drinks. You should ever pay more than $3 for a soda or an iced tea, but that’s exactly what you’ll pay at most restaurants. Oh, and don’t even get us started on the exorbitant prices of alcoholic drinks.
If you’re going out with a friend, and neither of you orders drinks, you’ll probably save at last $15 on your final check once it’s all said and done. That’s like an entire extra entree! You go out to restaurants to enjoy the food, so try doing that without ordering the drinks.
Start using the appetizer menu
All the best food is on the appetizer menu, but people just skip right past it like it’s not even there. All the food is cheaper on the appetizer menu too, but still, people want to eat entrees. Folks, we’re here to tell you to start appreciating the appetizer menu. Next time you go out to eat, see if your dining partners want to just split things off the appetizer menu. When the final bill comes, a feeling of relief will wash over you as you see how much you saved.
