Ways to Keep your South Austin Apartment Organized

  |     |   Uncategorized

Keep your South Austin apartment organized isn’t fun, but it is a necessary evil if you want to feel good when you walk through the door after a long day at the office. Looking at a clean, tidy apartment is far more appealing than having to deal with a sink full of dirty dishes or a messy counter.

Most of our residents aren’t first time apartment owners, but we do have plenty of residents who’ve downsized after living in a house for many years. The nice thing about living in an apartment is being able to manage a smaller space than you would in a big old house. Of course, the staff your South Austin apartments for rent will be able to handle any maintenance issues you may encounter, which makes apartment living even more stress-free.

There are tons of studies out there that show that stress levels rise when people’s homes are unorganized. Smaller spaces may be easier to clean, but there’s a difference between being clean and being tidy. Keeping a smaller space tidy is a bit more difficult, because counter spaces and other surface areas can accumulate clutter quickly. Luckily, the furniture market has adapted to the recent trend that sees more and more people living in apartments.

In this week’s post, we’ll be sharing a list of a few of our favorite ways to store your belongings, stay organized and keep your apartment tidy. You might encounter some upfront costs when beginning any apartment-organization project, but we promise it will all be worth it when you step inside you're clean, air conditioned apartment after a long drive home from work.

1. Go Vertical with your Storage

Your apartment only has so much space on the ground. Try as you might, you can’t create more square feet. However, the number of square feet listed next to your apartment does floorplan not account for the vertical space. We recommend buying tall, skinny shelves on which to place pictures, storage boxes and books. You’ll be amazed by how much storage space you can create by going vertical. Plus, vertical storage will draw guest’s eyes upwards, making your apartment seem even bigger.

2. Clear Boxes Make Everything Easier

If you’re going to buy storage containers to keep in your closet or on your balcony, we recommend buying clear boxes. No, you won’t be able to pick fun colors for your storage boxes, but you will be able to see all the items inside, which is far more advantageous. When you can see the items inside your storage boxes, you don’t have to unstack them and open each one just to find the item you’re looking for. Clear boxes might be slightly less visually appealing than colorful boxes, but they’re far more practical.

3. Couches, Ottomans and Beds are Storage, Too.

As we mentioned earlier, the market has changed in recent years to accommodate people who choose to live in smaller spaces. It’s easy to find furniture pieces that have built in storage these days. If you just make it a rule to never purchase furniture that doesn’t have at least a little bit of built-in storage, you’ll open up a whole lot more space in your apartment.
